Opacity & Accountability
I’m deeply concerned with how little we know about how AI systems actually work and who is responsible when things go wrong. The layers of proprietary code, closed datasets, and corporate secrecy make it nearly impossible for the public—or even policymakers—to audit or question them. This opacity protects power and hides bias. If we can’t see inside the systems shaping education, hiring, or creative work, then we lose our ability to demand fairness or repair harm. Transparency and accountability aren’t just technical issues—they’re ethical ones.
Power Concentration
The rapid expansion of AI has intensified corporate monopolies. Only a few companies have the computing infrastructure and data access to build large-scale models. This centralization gives those corporations immense control over knowledge, culture, and even political narratives. It mirrors colonial patterns of extraction: taking data from everyone, but returning benefits to a privileged few. AI development should not be a closed ecosystem governed by profit motives—it should be a collaborative, globally distributed effort that respects community input and ecological limits.
Bias, Discrimination & Representation
AI systems replicate the inequalities of the world they’re trained on. Most training datasets come from online spaces already saturated with racist, sexist, and Western-centric views. The AI field itself is still overwhelmingly male and lacks representation from women, minorities, and other genders. That imbalance shapes the worldview embedded in these systems. If those building AI don’t reflect the diversity of those affected by it, then technology becomes a mirror of exclusion.
Additional Topic: Environmental Impact
One topic missing from many lists is the energy and material cost of AI. Training massive models consumes enormous electricity and natural resources. As we rush toward “smarter” systems, we risk worsening the climate crisis. Sustainability must be treated
