The statement that felt most difficult to answer was “Knowing that AI contributed to a creative work changes its emotional meaning, even if the emotional experience itself was real.” I found it difficult because I don't think AI involvement automatically makes a work less meaningful, but I do think knowing AI was involved can change how I understand the work and the process behind it. I think about music especially. So much music comes from human experiences, relationships, poems, love stories, memories, and inspiration from things that existed before it. That does not make the music less meaningful. At the same time, knowing that AI contributed to a piece of music could change the way I connect to it because I would think differently about where the ideas came from and who was involved in making it. I also found the Creator Consent statement difficult because there is a difference between being inspired by someone's work and having that work used to train an AI system without their explicit consent. As a designer, I naturally look at other people's work, learn from it, and let it influence my own ideas. That makes me question where inspiration ends and a different kind of use begins. I don't think learning from existing work and using thousands of creators' work to train an AI system are automatically the same thing, even though both involve influence and recombination.
